Almost every island has a distinct language and culture.There are more than 750 ethnic groups in Indonesia with a majority ethnic Javanese. The Javanese are the largest ethnic group in Indonesia with the number reaching 41% of the total population. Javanese people gathered mostly in Java, but millions of lives have been transmigrated and spread to various islands in the archipelago and even migrate to other countries such as Malaysia and Suriname. Sundanese, Malays, and Madurese Ethnic is the next largest group in this country. But Papua has the highest number of ethnic groups, indigenous groups in Papua consisting of 255 tribes, with each language is different.

Nature and culture of Indonesia is very beautiful and also wealthy, there are at least 604 species of mammal 1471 kinds of birds, 671 kinds of reptiles and amphibians, 510 kinds of fish and 310 invertebrate species. Indonesia has nearly 1,000 endemic fauna spread in two regions, the Asian zoogeographical region (Sundaland) and the Australasian zoogeographical region (Wallacea).

There are about 28,000 species of flowering plants in Indonesia, consisting 2500 different kinds of orchids, 6000 traditional medicinal plants used as Jamu., 122 species of bamboo, over 350 species of rattan and 400 species of Dipterocarpus, including ebony, sandalwood and teakwood. Indonesia is also home to some unusual species such as carnivorous plants. One exceptional species is known as Rafflesia arnoldi, named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles and Dr. Arnold, who discovered the flower in the depths of Bengkulu, southwest Sumatra. This parasitic plant has a large flower, does not produce leaves and grow on a certain liana on the rain forest floor. Another unusual plant is Amorphophallus titanum from Sumatra. Numerous species of insect trapping pitcher plants (Nepenthes spp.) can also be found in Borneo, Sumatra, and other islands
